At some point in our lives, there are circumstances that we want people to see or get inspiration from. Most people love to share advice that is made up of their personal experiences. Coaching can be and, indeed, is a big responsibility. It involves studying and a lot of motivation in studying. Just like any other career we choose to take, coaching requires patience (lots of it), determination and perseverance - patience because you know that you have been in that same situation once and you know the difficulty of surviving that pitfall. To think that people are coming to you to ask how they can survive a certain situation, can be exhausting, that is why you should build yourself a mindset full of determination and perseverance to help them. Heavy as it may sound, but the end surely pays off.

This book will help you know the success behind coaching, get advice from people who have “been there, done that” and yet still manage to keep their feet down under all the pressures of life, and are now successful. Get some tips from the world’s top life coaches, coaching habits you may need or still need to develop, and even coaching your own way to success.

This book can be used as a self-help course and when you already have the courage, you can let others read and learn from it too. You can also use it for some group discussions, whenever you feel like training someone (maybe someday) to be a coach, too. It’s all up to you. The success behind this book is all up to you.

All the best!

Chapter One - Coaching Habits

It is essential to understand that habits are formed with repeated behaviors or actions. Once they are deeply ingrained in the system, habits form people and influence their lives. If habits are positive, they bring positive effects. If habits are negative, they bring stress and negative outcomes. Remember what Chinese Philosopher Lau Tzu wanted to imply - “Watch your thoughts, they become words. Watch your words, they become actions. Watch your actions, they become habits. Watch your habits, they become the character. Watch your character, it becomes your destiny.”

Habits can definitely make or break a person. Unhealthy habits can sabotage your life or others’ lives. When habits become uncontrollable, most people turn to professionally-trained individuals or life coaches. Coaching is one of the most-sought after and lucrative careers nowadays. People who are overwhelmed with atrocities and stresses of life seek the assistance of professional coaches to cope up with everyday pressures. If you are one of these coaches, you definitely know how to motivate others to change their lives by building new habits. If you intend to become one to help other people or yourself, learning coaching skills and mastering coaching habits are two essential things to do to ensure success in this field.

Coaching habits are essential tools to be able to understand, comprehend and motivate others to replace bad habits with good ones. It is important to develop coaching skills to assist other people to become productive and positive every day. As a coach, it is vital to becoming a positive driving force to help clients during their journey to self-discovery. Building coaching habits are simple if you truly understand the experience and use proven mechanisms to form new habits. One way to master coaching habits is to do coaching in an informal way every day.

Below are some of the most common bad habits that people want to eliminate from their lives and helpful ways to replace them.

Breaking Bad Habits and Turning Them into Good Habits

Multitasking to Single-tasking

The old belief that multitasking makes people more productive is a passé. Results of various studies show that multitasking often leads to fatigue and stress. Doing multiple tasks at a time brings in low quality of performance and sometimes results in inability to finish even a single task. Multitasking affects the cognitive skills of the brain to organize thoughts and filter non-essential information.

As a coach, it is essential to encourage your clients to focus on a single task and finish it first before starting another one. One way to build this habit is to make a daily to-do list then do one task after the other. Set a deadline for each task. Single-tasking keeps the focus on a current task and produces high-quality results.

Procrastination to Action

Procrastination leads to unfinished projects, unsuccessful ventures, and unacknowledged goals. There are many reasons why people procrastinate but the most common is fear. If you are guilty of procrastinating, you have experienced lots of setbacks in your life. Unfortunately, this habit steals dreams, precious time and good opportunities.

Help other people eliminate this habit by doing these 3 steps:

Breakdown large tasks into smaller and more manageable mini-tasks.

This prevents an overwhelming sensation that sometimes scares people to begin the task. Smaller goals are easier to accomplish. Teach them to take one small goal at a time then start right away. The feeling of achievement upon completion of the first mini-task will motivate them to start the next one.

Set a time limit.

This will force your clients to finish the task on or before the deadline. A clearly-defined time limit sparks motivation and keeps the adrenaline going.

Get to work.

As Stephen King says, “Amateurs sit and wait for inspiration, the rest just get up and work.” Working brings results so it is essential to begin as soon as possible. The longer people stall from starting the task, the harder the task becomes in the mind. Action ensures success.

Making Excuses to Accepting Personal Accountability

The habit of making excuses or looking for someone or something to blame when something wrong happens is unhealthy. Searching for reasons not to take action or avoid personal accountability keeps most people from living a successful, happy life.

Stop looking for reasons not to accept responsibility. Excuses are not really reasons; they are stoppers that hold people back from pursuing their dreams. Teach your clients to believe that everything is possible and attainable if they believe in themselves. Pursue goals with passion. Seek and accept new challenges.

Complaining about Doing Something

Life is full of stress which often leads to lamenting or complaining about some situations that affect the peace of mind. Studies reveal that chronic complaining affects physical, mental and emotional health. Complaining creates a stressful environment that exacerbates bad feelings.

It helps to encourage people to do something instead of complaining. Doing something like changing the attitude and mindset as well as getting away from unhealthy situations is essential. Doing something to eliminate problems or negative things is more productive.

Laziness to Being Industrious

Laziness is the culprit that keeps people from being who they want to be or achieve what they want in life. It keeps them rooted to the same spot and away from success. Laziness keeps people in thinking and planning mode, and never on acting mode. It is necessary to help others find the root cause of laziness because sometimes inaction is a result of an underlying reason that traumatizes them. It may be fear of failure, a guilt feeling, afraid to take risks or busyness.

The best way to beat laziness is to become the opposite. Encourage others to start planning on how to jumpstart their goals and push them to act towards these goals every day.

Inconsistency to Being Consistent

Consistency is one factor that contributes to success. However, there are different reasons that influence people to become inconsistent. The three of them are ignorance, inertia and indifference. The good news is that they can be overcome by taking full control and responsibility of their lives.

Coach other people who want to get rid of these bad habits by being aware of their inconsistencies. Help them stick to their decision and make firm commitments to become consistent in thought and action.

Overthinking to Mindful Thinking

Rumination or overthinking causes stress, emotional distress and disease. Dwelling too long on past mistakes, shortcomings, problems and even future plans affects well-being. Overthinking triggers unhealthy habits of alcohol drinking, eating and other coping mechanisms. It affects sleep and makes emotions unstable. It prevents people from chasing their dreams because of doubts, fears and other negative ideas that are formed during the overthinking mode.

Teach others to practice mindfulness. Encourage them to stop thinking about what has happened in the past and worrying about what will happen in the future. Inspire them to live each day and mindfully experience what every day brings into their lives.

Saying “Yes” to Others to Saying “Yes” to Yourself

Learning to say “no” to other people who are constantly stealing precious time and asking favors is one of the fastest ways to achieve personal or professional success. Many people cannot say “no” to their colleagues, friends and relatives. It usually results in the inability to finish their tasks, causing stress and burnout.

As a coach, it is important to make your clients realize that it is okay to say “no” and start saying “yes” to essential events, activities and tasks in their lives. Teach them to become more selective of their choices and know their priorities without sacrificing quality time with their families.

Self-Pity to Self-Confidence

Self-pity is a super negative emotion that keeps people sad, beaten and afraid to take risks. It drowns people in fear, doubts, frustrations, pains and other negative emotions which hinder their progress in life. Economic, physical disabilities and inadequacies are the usual factors that make people feel miserable and terrible. If left unchecked, self-pity steals away people’s strength to keep fighting and become successful.

As coach, it is necessary to help people break out from victim mentalities and develop strong self-confidence to ensure success through the following:

Preventing them from continuously dwelling on the guilt feelings of past mistakes and bad decisions they made. It is important to make them understand that they may have done bad decisions in the past but they can make better choices now.

Helping them take control of their lives by not relying on other people to validate their worth. This will boost their self-confidence and they will start living with the motivation to chase their own dreams.

Stop comparing their lives or achievements with friends, relatives and colleagues, and help them start running their own race. This is more empowering and motivating.

Feeling Guilty for Success to Celebrating Success

There will always be people who will feel jealous or insecure when other people gain success, promotion, financial wealth and other positive manifestations of their goals.

As a coach, it is important to make your clients feel that it is okay to be successful, rich or celebrated. Stop them from feeling guilty, embarrassed, bad or apologetic. Teach them to celebrate minor and major victories. And most important, make them realize that they deserve sweet success after doing their jobs excellently and there are people who are happy for their success. Never mind the rest.

Successful and effective coaches are great motivators. Coaching others or yourself to become better individuals is essential to success.Put your chapters or sections here. Chapter Two - Coach your Way to Success

You are the captain of your soul and the master of your fate. Nobody knows everything about you – except YOU. If you want to improve your life and attain your full potential, be ready to coach yourself to success. Self-coaching is the best way to manage your life. It is free. All you need is commitment, discipline, willpower and consistency. Don’t worry about not having a Ph.D. or experiences of expert life coaches. Life coaches are ordinary people who gain extraordinary talent to motivate other people. You are a unique person with the extraordinary power to transform your life using the right tools. Remember that you alone have the power to change the direction of your life. All the answers that you need are inside you. You just need to discover how to tap and use them to empower your life.

This chapter will provide you ways to help you coach your way to success using the pattern that life coaches use to help their clients. By applying and mastering these methods, you will be unstoppable and in due time, you will find yourself on top of the ladder of success.

#1 – Conduct a Self-Reflection

It is important to search within yourself. Find out what your real self wants. What drives you, what you want to become or what you want to have in your life. Sometimes, you keep on chasing the wrong things because you think they are necessary to make your life look good. But there are hidden desires that you know will make your life better and happier. There are untapped potentials that are lying dormant inside you and need awakening to help you attain success. Probe your inner psyche and get real. Getting real means being clear on who you are and what you really want in this lifetime. Strive for essential things that will give you complete happiness and true satisfaction.

#2 – Ask Powerful Questions

Questioning yourself is important. Consider yourself a client and ask the following powerful questions. Here are some of the most vital questions you need to answer:

What do I want to become in 5 years? 10 years? 20 years from now?

What kind of life I want for myself and family? What is my ideal life?

What do I want to do after my retirement?

What are the biggest challenges I have in my life now?

What are my urgent problems? Which of them needs immediate attention?

What are the opportunities that I have now? Which among them can help me reach my goals and dreams? What are the opportunities that I am missing?

Am I spending my time working on my goals or spending it with unnecessary activities that steal my attention from doing essential things to achieve success?

What holds me back from achieving my goals?

What drains my energy? Why am I tolerating them?

If there is one thing I can instantly have in my life, what would it be?

What is my personal vision? What is my career or business goal?

What changes can I make to live my best life?

Are the risks worth the price of success?

Why am I stuck? What am I waiting for?

What are my short-term and long-term goals?

What are my skills, my strengths and weaknesses?

What are my passions? What makes me happy? What motivates me?

What is my life’s purpose? Am I giving essence to my purpose now?

What is the one thing that I will regret if I do not do it now?

#3 - Review All the Important Areas in Your Life

Review every area of your life -personal, family, relationships, career, business and health. See yourself objectively. Do not judge, censure or criticize yourself while you are examining your current state of life. It is essential to examine all areas in order to balance your life. Success means healthy balance in all areas of your life. The change you will be doing shall not tip off the other aspects of your life. It should solidify your overall success.

#4- Identify the Areas You Want to Improve

You need to identify every area of your life that you want to improve and bring about significant change. Remember, if you want to fix something, your first step would be to find out where it is located. It can be your finances, health, marriage, career or any area which gives you less than what you expect. Find areas where you are suffering (physical, emotional, mental) or that which makes you regret your lack of action or over-reaction. After you identify the areas, don’t try to improve them all at once because your efforts will be wasted. If you want real change, give each area enough time and tackle it until you see a positive improvement.

#5 – Know Your Strengths and Weaknesses

You need to prepare your tools. Your tools are inside your mind- your thoughts and inside your heart -your emotions and behaviors. The patterns of your thoughts are important. If you are a positive thinker, it is easier. But if you are a pessimist you need to change the way you think. It isn’t an easy journey but if you want to improve your life and become successful, you need to alter your mindset and focus on the positive side of life. Another thing you need to conquer is your response to negative situations that trigger your emotions. If you usually react to anxiety, stress, anger, fear and doubt then chances are these emotions will attract the negative outcomes in your life. If you handle your problems with positive anticipation of great results or excitement to practice your decision-making skills, then it will be easier for you. Take into account your strong points and weak points. It will be easier for you to reinforce the positive or improve on the negative if you list them all.

#6 - Create Your Goals and Strategies to Attain Them

Now that you have done all the pre-requisites that you need to do to change or improve your life, the next essential step is to write your goals. Make clear and specific goals in every area that needs improvement. Then, write down your plans, strategies or techniques to make them come true. Create your Plan A, Plan B, and Plan C. Set deadlines so you will be more motivated.

Make big goals and break them down into mini-goals that can be achieved in lesser time. If your goal requires three months, make mini-goals that are attainable weekly. The weekly achievement will reduce stress and increase your productivity level.

When making goals, begin your statement with “I will…” instead of “I want to…” It is important to frame your goals this way to signify psychological preparedness that you are welcoming success in your life.

#7- Make a Journal to Track Your Progress

Journaling your progress is essential. Use paper or a notebook and pen to record your progress. It is more personal and fun to read. You need to record all your daily actions to achieve your goal. Make weekly reviews, assess immediate results or see how close you are to your goal. Write your struggles or problems that you encounter. Write the details so you will know how to manage or avoid them in the future. Tracking down your efforts will motivate you to keep going. It also pinpoints flaws or errors in your strategy so you can immediately use Plan B if Plan A is not effective.

#8 – Stop Making Excuses and Make Yourself Accountable

It is your own life. Make yourself accountable for your own actions as you keep your eye focused on the big picture. As your own self-coach, do not expect mediocre results or half-hearted efforts even from yourself. Commit yourself fully to what you deserve and accept nothing less even from yourself. Stop making feeble excuses. Get your life back on the right course by being committed to gain success.

# 9- Expect Setbacks

Every journey has its ups and downs. Obstacles are always lurking in the corners ready to pounce when you do not expect them. Always make yourself ready to adjust your strategies. Consider setbacks, failures and disappointments as signs that you are not in the right direction. Start all over again if your plans fail. Review your strategies, your environment, your support system and your personal habits. One or two of them are the reasons why you fail. Once you find out, prepare your new plans and keep up the fight.

#10 -Celebrate Every Milestone You Make and Reward Yourself

All life coaches advocate positive reinforcements to keep you motivated and productive. Reward yourself for every minor achievement you make. If you achieve your weekly goal, reward yourself with something that makes you happy like watching a movie, a massage session or a new book. Simple rewards will keep your confidence high and make you more determined to achieve your BIG goal.

Seeing great changes happening in your life because of your efforts in coaching yourself to success, nothing and nobody can hinder your journey to becoming successful in all areas of your life. Always remember that the only one who can stand in your way is YOU. You are the only person who can bring yourself to a higher level of success!

To keep you focused, take one goal at a time. Choose your priority goal and create a plan to achieve it in one month.

Below are strategies that can help you succeed to reach your goal in 30 days:

Practice Good Habits Every Day

If you want to improve your circumstances, learn to alter your daily habits. Healthy habits bring success while bad habits stop your progress in life. It is important to nurture yourself with positive habits that make you feel happy and good every day. They are essentials to your success.

Wake up Early

Highly successful individuals share one thing in common; they rise from their beds earlier than the rest of humanity. There is a belief that productivity kicks off at 4:00 in the morning. When you wake up early and use the extra hours before your regular working hours, you will have more time to prepare yourself physically, emotionally and mentally.

Empower your life by starting the day with prayers of gratitude. Pray for yourself, your family, your career, your clients, your goals and your plans for the day. Living each day with a sense of gratitude gives you peace of mind and inner happiness. It gives you a sense of awareness and direction for the day.

Morning Meditation

Practicing daily meditation is excellent to stimulate productivity. It increases serotonin, the hormones which stabilizes moods. It stimulates the release of endorphins which energizes the body and mind. It balances emotions and calms your mind. It promotes self-awareness and attunes you to your higher Self.

Morning exercise is beneficial to your body-mind-spirit. It strengthens your muscles and pumps your energy level. It increases your brainpower ten hours after your workout. This sustains your brain capacity to function excellently throughout the day.

Eat Breakfast

A healthy, well-balanced breakfast supplies essential energy to your body which you will need to do your daily tasks. It restores the normal level of glucose which fuels the brain to do essential functions. It improves your mood and reduces stress.

State your Daily Intentions

Use powerful and positive statements that will boost your creative level for the day. When making affirmations, use I will and I can – statements to positively psyche you. Positive beliefs that you can achieve your goals send a signal to your subconscious mind that they are real. Positive manifestations follow. Practice affirming your priority goal for 30 days and see the outcome.

Plan your Day

It is vital to organize your day to avoid overlapping of activities which result in stress or poor performance. If you want to become successful, adopt the practice of successful people who plan their day ahead of time. Make a daily to-do list before your sleep at night. List down your priority tasks and secondary tasks. Set deadlines for each task. Planning your day allows you to set enough time for each activity especially personal or career-related tasks that are necessary to your success.

Manage your Time

If you want results, learn to manage your time effectively. Maximizing your time to do high-priority tasks will bring you closer to your goal. Learn to find your peak hours and do your most challenging tasks during this period. Your creativity and energy flows excellently during your peak hours. Do one task at a time to avoid burn-out. Avoid distractions that will keep you from finishing your tasks. Since you set deadlines on each task, you need to be focused when you are working. Learn to say “NO” to people and activities that will steal your time, energy and focus from your main tasks.

Review your Day Activity

This is empowering. Reviewing how much you have done for the day boosts motivation to achieve your 30-day goal. Make it a point to check off the tasks that you have completed. Seeing your daily accomplishments gives a sense of pride and makes you look forward to doing the next day’s tasks. You know that you are getting closer to your goal.

Notable Habits to Succeed in Life in just a month

Habits are essential factors to help become successful in any endeavor. They are behind every action you do or behavior you show every day. They are wired to become autopilot and will be an integral part of your being. Habits can be harmful or useful. They can destroy or empower you. Unhealthy habits create frustrations, problems and failures. Healthy habits bring satisfaction, happiness and success. It is important to assess all your habits so you can improve or change bad habits and enhance good ones.

Habits are repeated actions that you can maximize to propel yourself to a new level in your career and business, family and relationships, and friendship zone. Here are the most notable habits that you need to acquire to gain success in just a month!

Career habits are your best tools to attain professional success. They increase your productivity level and help you rise fast on the corporate ladder. They help you excel in your job and impress your superiors. Using appropriate habits can propel your business to a greater level of competitiveness. Professional habits are core factors to become successful in your business or career.

Be in your office 30 minutes early– In the present time of cut-throat competition, arriving 30 minutes before everybody comes in is a must-have habit you need to cultivate. This will help you prepare and jumpstart your morning routine in your workplace. This gives you ample time to arrange your schedules and review your to-do-list. Once done, start tackling your priority task as soon as you put on your computer or get settled in your seat. Take advantage of being alone in your office and begin working. Chances are, you are halfway on your first task the moment your office mates arrive.

Keep moving – Your daily list should be a written document to achieve your 30-day goal in your career or business. If you give enough time to plan them the night before and believe they are necessary to achieve your goals then accomplishing them is essential. Make sure you accomplish at least 85% of them before the day ends. Make a short list every day. Choose 3 most important tasks you need to do and 2-3 minor tasks. Complete them one by one and tick them off the list as soon as you finish.

Work smart – Avoid multitasking. Doing your tasks one at a time is the best way to be productive. Organize your work area. Turn off distractions like social media activities. Prepare all the necessary tools or material to complete your task. Focus on your task to produce quality results. Device methods that will help you finish each task on or before the deadline you set.

Challenge yourself to finish minor tasks in 10-15 minutes – Your priority tasks get the lion share of your working time. The remaining time is for your minor tasks that are not too essential but need to be done. Give each task ten minutes and complete it. You can also delegate them if they do not require your personal presence or attention. If you are in-between big tasks and there is one urgent minor task you need to do, give it 10 minutes and then go back to the next big task.

Add significant value – Whether you are an employee or a business owner, become the best one. You can do it by purposely adding great value to your workplace. When you do your best in whatever task you need to accomplish and produce excellent output, people in authority notice. Always aim to give the best performance. Do your job excellently well no matter how menial it is. When you do your best even in a simple thing, you are creating a positive habit that will lead you to success in anything you want in life.

Family and Relationships

Your personal relationship with your husband/wife, family and relatives are a significant part of your success. They are your inspiration to achieve a successful life. They are the reasons why you are working hard. It is essential to always have quality time to nurture your relationships.

Conduct a regular review of your relationship status - It is important to assess your personal relationship with your wife or husband. Is it as strong, stable, healthy, intimate and happy as before? What about your relationship with your children? Parents? Siblings? Close relatives? Are they meaningful and fulfilling? If your answers are not a resounding “yes”, it’s time to make amends.

Have one meal together every day- It can be breakfast or dinner. It is essential to keep it a habitual practice since everybody is busy. Ask your family to make it a point to be present at this meal. No excuses allowed. Make it your “eating-sharing daily experiences- planning day”. This habit will foster closer and happier relationships.

Schedule a special date with each of your loved ones – Take your partner on a regular date without kids. Plan simple surprises during your date. It does not require lavish preparation. Be creative and share the fun together. Do it also with your kids. Have a one-on-one date with each of them to know their plans or guide them in their activities in school. Date your parents or your siblings too. Make them feel better by giving time and attention.

Have fun together – Plan family vacations or weekend getaways where you can play, relax and have fun with your family. Go to the beach, go hiking or camping, visit neighboring sights or even cook together outside your house. Plan simple, meaningful and fun-filled family activities that will nurture your relationships.

Communicate – It is one of the most important ingredients to have a successful family relationship. A healthy and open communication promotes peaceful, happy and healthy relationships. It quickly resolves problems and conflicts. When making a family decision, speak up and listened to what your family says. Communicate constantly.

Meaningful friendship adds happiness in your life. It gives you a sense of belongingness and enhances your social skills. Friendship is about mutual care, support and respect.

Meet-ups - Have regular meet-ups to share stories, plans or just have fun together. It can be a simple lunch during the week, coffee after work or a weekend game. Relax with your friends and laugh together. Happy friendships are a great stress reducer.

Become your friends’ encourager – Cultivate the habit of being your friends’ cheerer during happy or sad moments.

Be reliable – Value the time and effort of your friends. Avoid disappointing them. If you cannot be there, make a call so he will understand.

Be real – Be yourself. Do not pretend. Do not hide your weaknesses or mistakes. Show them your strengths.

Be a good listener- Learn to listen actively when they are telling you something. Do not cut the conversation by offering unsolicited advice. Let them finish before saying what you want.

Don’t compare yourself with your friends – Avoid comparisons that can lead to envy and resentment. Appreciate your friends as they are and be confident in who you are.

Forgive and forget – Like any relationships, there will always be conflicts. When that happens, learn to settle them at once, forgive and then forget.

Chapter 5 - Advice from the World’s Most Successful People

Most, if not all, of the most successful people that we will feature in this book, had at some point in their lives, experienced tremendous failure. So, I think, for us to learn from their own words can be a great help and motivation.

Oprah Winfrey

“Do the one thing you think you cannot do. Fail at it. Try again. Do better the second time. The only people who never tumble are those who never mount the high wire. This is your moment. Own it.”

Who is Oprah Winfrey? Just the 20th century’s wealthiest African American. She is also considered in line with the world’s most influential women. Before she became a well-off host and entrepreneur, she experienced extreme poverty, sexual abuse, a broken family and even ran away from home at an early age.

Walt Disney

“I think it’s important to have a good hard failure when you’re young… Because it makes you kind of aware of what can happen to you. Because of it, I’ve never had any fear in my whole life when we’ve been near collapse and all of that. I’ve never been afraid.”

We, in ourselves as adults, can prove how this man made a mark on our childhood. Walt Disney experienced an interrupted childhood. He and his brother sold newspapers neglecting work for school due to lack of time. He was rejected in the army when he enrolled due to his age. During the war in France, he was an ambulance driver and a helper to the injured people of the war. When they returned to their hometown, his brother helped him get a job. This job suited his ability and hobby – drawing cartoons, studying acts and memorizing some gags. The rest is history.

J.K. Rowling

“It is impossible to live without failing at something, unless you live so cautiously that you might as well not have lived at all – in which case, you fail by default.”

J.K. Rowling is the woman behind the notable fantasy novel series, Harry Potter. She spent her time working on the series despite having deep depression due to her mother’s death at the time. She planned, failed, resumed, failed and continued amidst all life’s unfortunate events. It took her years before she stood up to where she is now. All these failures and nothing did stop her.

Michael Jordan

“Always turn a negative situation into a positive situation.”

Every sports enthusiast knows that he is one of Basketball’s legends. He led his team to 6 championships and got and MVP (Most Valuable Player) award five times in his entire career. Since he was a kid, he has shown a very competitive spirit and indeed this attitude made him stand out among others. To quote, “I've missed more than 9000 shots in my career. I've lost almost 300 games. 26 times, I've been trusted to take the game-winning shot and missed. I've failed over and over, and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed.”

Abraham Lincoln

“I am a slow walker, but I never walk back.”

He was the 16th President of USA but before he became one he had failed in most of his business attempts, political runs and had lots of massive failures. After all these, the man persevered and it brought him to the highest pinnacle of his life.

Chapter 6 - Coaching Consistent Change

Making changes in your life towards success is hard, let alone doing consistent change. Yes, it is hard but is doable. You just have to be ready to face risks, ensure that you have good habits towards achieving your goals and remember to keep track of your progress.

Keep yourself on track going through a consistent change and who knows you may just achieve the things that you desire.

Here’s how:

Preparing for Failures towards Success

Everyone has a goal to achieve and a role to fulfill. Whatever your purpose, you are most likely to make decisions involving an element of risk - the part which you have to consider, the probability that something goes wrong and the consequences if it does.

Risks are hard to spot let alone managing and preparing for it. No matter how hard it is to manage risk, you can alleviate its impact in your life if you are able to plan for it.

There are two things to do before you are able to manage risks. First is to identify the possible threats then estimate the possibility of the risk.

In identifying threats, write all the possible threats in a notebook, it can be financial, mental, emotional, social or physical just list everything. Next would be to estimate the risk, on the other side of the paper note down the value of the possible worst case scenario, how it can affect your life or how much it will cost you.

After identifying the risk and estimating the value, follow these 4 easy steps to handle possible failures to success.

Avoiding the Risk

Some people may opt to avoid the risk – the best option if you want risk-free activities or projects. High risks activities which you think is not relevant and the cost is too much for you or your group may be eliminated all at once by avoiding it.

Just remember, the downside of avoiding the risk is missing out on opportunities.

Sharing the Risk

Sharing makes it easier for you to prepare for possible failures and to manage risks. How? By sharing, you are releasing some stress from yourself and being able to manage the risk easier through a concerted effort of some people. After all two heads are better than one, share the burden and you share the potential gain. Having someone who you can run to and open up about your burden can help in all aspects of your life.

Accepting the Risk

There are times when you can’t do anything but to accept that a negative situation will occur. The best way to handle unavoidable failures or risks is to accept them. Just make sure that your future gain is worth it while accepting the risk. This may look like gambling but a risk worth accepting can double your potential gain.

Controlling the Risk

There are two ways to control possible failure: It is through preventative actions and detective actions.

Preventative actions are actions which aim to prevent high-risk events from occurring while detective actions are actions involving the act of identifying the process where something could go wrong.

Ensuring Good and Consistent Habits towards Success

Keeping good habits creates a huge impact on your life - it helps you deal with all the things that may be good or bad.

In this part, we will learn how to keep good habits which will nurture you personally and professionally.

Identify your Goals.

List down all the things you want to achieve and develop, it can be personal or at your workplace. This step is very important as it helps you develop habits which are needed to achieve your goals.

Build Necessary Habits into Your Everyday Life.

Find ways to incorporate your new habit to your routine. Let’s say an hour, block out a regular hour of your schedule for your new habit. This way you are giving yourself time to adjust and putting your full attention to a new habit.

Reflect on Your New Habits.

Make sure to check how your new habits are working. Does it work? Is it too hard to do? If you are struggling to do your habits adjust them and make it a little simpler. Sometimes tweaking or adjusting your habits is needed.

Have Self-Discipline.

A study in 2012 has shown that building new habits will take 66 days for it to be incorporated into your routine, self-discipline is essential.

Keeping track of your progress towards success

Once you have identified your goals and built a new habit, you should track your progress.

For you to do that, here are four ways to keep track of your progress:

Record Your Progress

Make a checklist of your goals, whenever you finish one goal check it off your list.

Write facts or figures of what you have already achieved. For example, in saving money you have already saved $500, keep a record of it.

For progress which cannot be measured quantitatively, you can track your progress by creating a rating system of 1 to 5, 1 for least progressive and 5 for most progressive.

Plan and Organize Your Progress.

Some things can be finished quickly but some cannot. What you have to do is to break down these hard to achieve goals to smaller pieces and do them one by one. The key here is to stick to the plan.

Stay accountable. Share your goals with someone that you trust. This way he or she will ask you about your progress. When someone knows your goals, you will feel more accountable and most likely to finish your task faster.

Celebrate your progress. The best way to check your progress is to celebrate. After each accomplishment celebrate, this way you are preventing yourself from getting burnt out while having the motivation to keep on achieving your goals.

If you are getting tired of all that is happening around you and constantly asking for a change but nothing happens. Ask yourself, what have you done? Start from yourself and be the change that you want.
